Kate Dolan is an Perth-based abstract artist working from her studio in Fremantle/ Walyalup, Western Australia.
‘Zero’ is a new series of large-scale works. Bigger in scale, looser in approach, a deliberate shift to a new territory. At this scale the process takes over. Paint is thrown, dragged, worked from the floor and the ladder. You can only reach so far, the shape of your body becoming part of the composition. You can’t see the whole canvas at once so control is surrendered, the paint dictates your next move. Works in this series range from 200 to 350cm

Kate’s practice has always been driven by observation and obsession, a colour spotted in passing, a shape that won’t leave her alone, a rabbit hole that demands to be followed. Each body of work reflects wherever she is and whatever has her attention.
