‘Mud Lava’ is an original abstract painting by Perth artist Kate Dolan, its name taken from the lava glazing technique of the West German ceramics movement, but grounds it in something more earthen and instinctive. Deep burgundy and olive fields are layered beneath scratched geometric marks,. Built up and worked back, the surface carries the same quiet weight as clay pulled from the ground. Part of the Keramik series, created in the Perth studio in 2025.
